Eating ice cream has got to be my favorite past time. If I could make it a habit of eating ice cream everyday, I would (oh wait...I have)! And since Summer has officially started, what better way to kick off the season than to enjoy a creamy, cold and luscious dessert straight from Ohio to Cali! 

Jeni Britton Bauer is the mastermind behind Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. Jeni and her staff use prime ingredients to build ice cream, sorbets and frozen yogurt from scratch. The Los Feliz location is its twenty-first shop and get their flavors shipped in from their flagship in Columbus, Ohio. Although they recently had their listeria outbreak and had to shut down shop, it hasn't steered me away from eating my way one flavor at a time. Oh, and feel free to try as many flavors as you like (I certainly did)!

MY FAVORITE DISH. TRIO -THREE HALF SCOOPS ($6.50) + WAFFLE CONE ($1.00): The first flavor I got was the sun-popped corn. I felt I was literally eating buttery popcorn in ice cream form. If you like popcorn, this is a must! MY FAVORITE FLAVOR: BROWN BUTTER ALMOND BRITTLE. The second flavor is the brown butter almond brittle. Imagine big chunks of almond brittle mixed into this creamy, rich ice cream. So delicious! And last but not least (featured at the top of the cone) is the Intelligentsia black cat espresso. This is a coffee lovers dream! Bold flavors to give those who love both ice cream and coffee an orgasmic experience.

SMALL -TWO HALF SCOOPS ($5.50): The first flavor was the brown butter almond brittle, which was described as above in deliciousness. The second flavor was the passionfruit frozen yogurt. This was refreshing and truly tasted like a passionfruit in your mouth. A winner! The best part of getting your ice cream in a cup is the little waffle chip that accompanies it.

Overall, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream is a wonderful addition to Los Angeles. Upon first bite, you can tell that only fresh, superb ingredients are used to create her ice cream. The rich, smooth texture is elicited in every scoop. Although there are plenty of ice cream shops to choose from in Los Angeles, this is probably one of my favorites. It's not overly heavy or creamy like Salt and Straw (which I still love by the way), but rather lighter with bright flavors. So in that sense, us Angelenos are pretty lucky to have Jeni's right within our grasp instead of making the long flight to Ohio.
