When walking through the streets of Chicago, you tend to find yourself feeling a bit peckish. When I get peckish, I turn to desserts. Luckily, I found this spot just around the corner from my hotel, The Chicago Athletic Association. It's a quaint little bakery serving delicious breakfast items, lunch and dessert.

The store itself has a window full of baked goods for you to choose from. There are multiple communal tables and a few other 2-seaters throughout the bakery. It's a great place to grab a quick breakfast or catch up with your friends over their delicious coffee and baked goods.

Their goodies
Look at all these...yum! They even offer vegan and gluten free options.

HOUSE COFFEE ($2.45 OR FREE WITH YELP CHECK-IN). This is a very good coffee. I used to work at Starbucks, which has decent coffee, but this is really good. It was strong, bold, and a great addition to dessert.
MY FAVORITE DISH. RAINBOW CAKE ($5.99/SLICE). This is one delicious cake. There are multiple layers of different colors, hence the name "rainbow" cake. Unfortunately, all the layers taste the same, but who cares? The cake was super moist and wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciate. It's a good cake without any fuss. If you want something simple, this a good go-to cake! Plus, it's pretty!
AVOCADO TOAST ($5.95): Sourdough, Herbed Ricotta, Smashed Avocado, Lemon, Chili Flakes. This is one of the better avocado toasts I've had in awhile. The sourdough was chewy with the perfect crunch. The ricotta and the avocado gave a great creamy texture. I appreciated that the ricotta had fresh herbs rather than a bland and boring ricotta. The chili flakes gave a nice kick that I never thought about ever putting on the toast. The lemon was just the perfect touch to give the toast the acidity it needed. It was a well-balanced toast and I enjoyed the fresh arugula salad on the side.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this bakery. I like that they offer both sweet and savory, where one doesn't outweigh the other. I also appreciate they have various options for those who have dietary restrictions. The place can get busy on the weekends when other shops tend to close. They plan on opening another location in Chicago, so be sure to check out their website.
